Terms of service
These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your use of Cachette, an Android encrypted vault published on Google Play as app.cachette (“the App”). By downloading, installing or using the App, you agree to them. If you do not agree, do not use the App.
The App is published by the individual developer identified on the App’s Google Play listing (“the Developer”, “we”, “us”). You can reach us at the developer contact email shown in the Developer contact section of Cachette’s Google Play listing.
How the App handles information is described in the Privacy Policy, which forms part of these Terms.
If you forget your pattern and you do not have a backup, the vault is gone. Nobody can recover it, including us. Please read that twice.
What the App is
Cachette encrypts photos, videos and documents on your device and opens them with a pattern drawn on a 5×5 grid. The pattern is the key, not a lock in front of a gallery. There is no account, no developer-operated server, and no network permission.
A plain-language description of the product is on its overview page.
Licence
Subject to these Terms, you are granted a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to install and use the App on devices you own or control, for your own personal, non-commercial use. All rights in the App’s software, design and branding that are not expressly granted here are reserved.
You may not copy, distribute, sell, rent or sublicense the App, except as Google Play’s own family-sharing or device-transfer features permit; you may not reverse-engineer it except to the extent applicable law expressly allows; and you may not use it for any unlawful purpose.
The paid download
Cachette is a paid app on Google Play. You pay to install; the APK is the whole product. There is no free tier, no trial, no subscription, and no in-app purchase.
- The price is set and displayed by Google Play in your local currency, and is shown to you before you confirm anything.
- The purchase is billed, processed and fulfilled by Google Play, and is additionally subject to Google Play’s Terms of Service and Google’s own refund policies. Google Play is the seller of record.
- The App contains no billing library and cannot check a licence, because it cannot reach the network.
- Refunds are requested through Google Play — see Google’s refund help. We may also action a refund at our discretion on request.
Nothing here limits statutory consumer rights, including any right of withdrawal, that apply to you under the law of your country of residence.
Your vault, your pattern, your backup
The pattern you draw is not stored. It is not hashed for comparison. It cannot be reset. If you forget it, the on-device vault is unreadable.
The only way back from a forgotten pattern, a lost phone, or a factory reset is an encrypted backup you made yourself, opened by the 24-word phrase shown when you made it. A backup is a snapshot: files added after it are not in it. Keep the phrase on paper. We cannot reconstruct either the pattern or the phrase.
Uninstalling the App deletes its private storage. Encrypted backups and exports you saved elsewhere are ordinary files under your control and are not deleted with the App.
What the App does not claim
Cachette hides which vaults exist and what is in them from someone holding your unlocked phone. It does not hide how much encrypted data is stored. A forensic examiner who images the device can see the size of the blob store.
The App cannot recall copies that left the phone before import — a cloud gallery that already synced the original, a chat that already sent it, a computer that already has it.
Deniability makes coercion pointless. It does not make it impossible, and it is not legal advice. A rooted or malware-infected device beats the sandbox, the same way it beats everything else on the phone.
Screenshots, recordings and casts are blocked while the App is showing a vault. They are not blocked in other apps, and they are not a guarantee against a camera pointed at the screen.
Intellectual property
The App’s software, design and the “Cachette” name belong to the Developer. The App includes third-party components used under their own licences; where a licence grants you rights that these Terms would otherwise restrict, that licence prevails for that component. Android and Google Play are trade marks of their respective owners.
No warranty
The App is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including — to the fullest extent permitted by law — any implied warranty of merchantability, satisfactory quality, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement.
We do not warrant that the App will be uninterrupted or error-free, that any defect will be corrected, that it will be compatible with any particular device, or that a vault, a backup or a shredded original will survive every form of hardware failure, user error, or attack.
Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, the Developer is not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential loss arising from your use of, or inability to use, the App — including a forgotten pattern, a skipped backup, a lost phrase, a shredded original, or data that cannot be recovered. Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, and any mandatory consumer-protection rights you have.
Changes to the App and to these Terms
The App may be changed, suspended or discontinued in whole or in part at any time. You may stop using it at any time by uninstalling it. These Terms may be updated; the effective date above will change, and material changes will be noted in the App’s release notes on Google Play. Continuing to use the App after a change means you accept the updated Terms.
Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of Spain, without regard to conflict-of-law principles, and without prejudice to any mandatory consumer-protection rights available to you under the law of your country of residence.
